Background

I am from a small-ish town in Iowa called Indianola, where I lived my entire life until I decided to come to Hamline to study physics! I’ve always been really into STEM, especially math, physics, and chemistry since high school, but I also really love literature and history, so coming to a school like Hamline that allows me to take a wide variety of classes was really important to me. Specifically, I am interested in biomedical engineering, and by next fall I will hopefully be attending Washington University in St. Louis to get my BS and MS in biomedical engineering through the 3+3 dual degree program that Hamline offers.

Hamline Experience

I am a junior at Hamline studying physics and doing a special dual degree program in which I will attend WashU to get a bachelors and masters degree in engineering. In my time at Hamline, I’ve been a TA for a General Chemistry lab, a lab and homework grader for the General Physics courses, and on the board for both the Society of Physics and Chemistry clubs. I have also done two summers of research for the physics department here at Hamline, studying ways to make lead detection accessible for more communities. All of my science classes at Hamline have been very fulfilling to me and have only strengthened my love for STEM!

Goals

I hope to gain more hands-on experience as well as general research experience while I am attending WashU for the three years that I am there.

I would love to be able to innovate/engineer some kind of medical device that can help improve the quality of life for individuals who are in need of medical assistance, as well as generally improve the healthcare system in the U.S.!

Other Interesting Facts

really love reading and watching T.V. in my free time! I can appreciate all types of genres, from sci-fi to non-fiction to fantasy to horror and everything in between! My all-time favorite show might be The Walking Dead, with Game of Thrones or The Pitt also being up there.

I have a huge sweet tooth – if anyone suggests getting a sweet treat after a long day, I’m there!

I also love baking and cooking – getting to eat something I’ve made myself and it being good is one of my favorite things!

I really love cats. Back at home, my parents have five of them (so I’ve been conditioned to love them)!
